Here's what you can do this National Stress Awareness Day

April the 16th marks the National Stress Awareness Day. In this modern-day life, we deal with stress on a daily basis - whether it's struggling to finish your taxes, dealing with high stress at home or on the job, or just juggling multiple tasks every day. So today sit back and enjoy a day dedicated solely to de-stressing!

The cure for stress?

For some, it only takes a timely reminder to breathe, have a laugh, and relax. For others, it requires a serious, daily affirmation that stress won't get the better of them.

Sure, stress will always be a part of our lives, so it's even more important to keep in mind the various ways to cope. Here are some things you can start doing today to relieve stress.

Get enough rest

For a good night's rest, consciously shut the door on what has been bothering you during the day. Remember that the body is detoxified and cells are regenerated during deep sleep leaving us feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the world again the next day.

Exercise

Be amazed at how physical movement can change your mental perspective. Take a walk, or a good jog in place, or around a nature park, to get those "feel good" endorphins pumping in your brain that lend a feeling of relaxation and well-being.

Pet your dog

Or any other pet for that matter. Science shows that the unconditional love that pets freely give helps us to de-stress and has powerful effects on lowering our blood pressure and increasing our mood.

Laugh

It's true what they say about laughter being the best medicine. So collapse on the couch and take time out to watch your favorite TV sitcom or stream a classic Hollywood comedy to end the day.

Book Holidays

Booking a restorative break is a chance to give your mind, body, and soul a much-needed rest. You may opt for the calm beach getaways, but a great option for reconnecting with yourself spiritually is doing the Camino de Santiago.

This is one of the most famous pilgrimage walks in the world. It is an exciting and unforgettable adventure and a different way to discover Northern Spain and Galicia. The Camino provides a great way to disconnect from daily stress in beautiful and nature-filled scenery. Many say the Camino is as much a mental/inner journey as it is a physical journey. This disconnection is so powerful that after walking the Camino some people are moved to make changes in the way they live their lives.

There are several routes you can take and different difficulty levels. You can choose between walk or cycling, doing it alone or with a guide and from which country you want to begin the journey. You can browse through our website and find the route that would suit you best.

So remember, stress is normal and affects everyone. It's the way you chose to deal with it that makes a difference. Have a good National Stress Awareness Day!
